Passenger Facilities improvements in Indian Railways
Indian Railways has decided to spend more than Rs. 2,00,000 crore on Railway platform improvement plan with the help of private players. This scheme comes under Indian Railways 11th plan. For the comforts of the Passengers IR has decided to develop Platforms and space above and around it with the help from private players and has decided to adopt public-private-partnership PPP model. This project may cover both major and minor railway stations and could cover the entire length and breadth of platform areas to create world-class passenger facilities and services. "The main objective should be to increase platform space by shifting major platform-level operational and passenger services to the first floor concourse level," Report from the Working Group on Railways for the 11th Plan.
The Group, headed by Railway Board Chairman J P Batra, suggested that a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) be created, in which Railway Land Development would invest money as equity.

Indian Railways in Bollywood - Trains in Movies
Indian Railways is steaming bollywood producers and directors by charging them more from now on. The Railway board decided this just before their 11th plan meeting. Film producers and directors are not very happy with this new development and have objected to the ten-fold increase in the charges. This decision, taken by the Railway Board, was implemented from yesterday. The Indian Railway authorities finally have become serious about earning profits as they have hiked the charges for film shootings on railway stations and on other railway premises and properties. Trains are always an integral part of Hindi movies and producers and directors know that people here can relate things very easily. They are not very happy with the decision. Songs and scenes from so many Hindi movies were featured on moving trains and on Railway platforms.
